Pomeranian Medical University (PMU), a state-owned university was established in 1948 with the full-time and intramural system of study. PMU offers courses at diploma, graduation, post-graduation level.

At present, PMU offers English language courses under Faculty of Medicine and on the Faculty of Dentistry to over 600 students. Each year the University offers 100 seats at the Faculty of Medicine and 30 seats at the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

PMU has cooperated with many other medical schools, hospitals and clinics in Europe. With this, its students get to participate in many exchange programs and research activities. PMU offers not only an excellent training for future doctors or dentists but also a fantastic opportunity to live and work in a diverse environment where one can learn the new language, understand another culture or even observe different scientific approaches and techniques.

Courses

Doctor of Medicine (MD)

The duration of the program is 12 semesters, with total number of 5710 hours of lectures and practical classes. Each year awards 60 ECTS points.

The learning outcome of this course is based on the following essential elements of a competent and reflective practitioner:

  • what does the student know (demonstrating evidence of knowledge, assessing comprehension, assessing application, assessing analysis and synthesis)?
  • what the student is able to do (practical skills)
  • the student as a professional (competences – a dynamic combination of attributes, abilities and attitudes)

These three primary elements give rise to seven domains, which student will have to master during 5 academic years:

  • Morphological sciences
  • Scientific basis of medicine
  • Preclinical sciences
  • Behavioural sciences with elements of professionalism
  • Clinical sciences
  • Clinical sciences with treatment
  • Legal and organizational basis of medicine

From the first till third academic year students will have a semester system of studies. Classes on the fourth and fifth year will be conducted in a block system.

Sixth academic year (the eleventh and twelfth semester) will comprise 30 weeks of practical training in the following fields of medicine:

  • Internal Medicine
  • Paediatrics
  • Surgery
  • Gynaecology and Obstetrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Family Medicine
  • 6 weeks of the specialty/ discipline chosen by the student.

Doctor of Medicine and Dentistry (DMD)

The duration of the program is 10 semesters, with total number of 5000 hours of lectures and practical classes. The first two years deliver with knowledge from basic, preclinical disciplines with and introduction to clinical sciences. The following three years focus on dental disciplines and clinical studies.

The learning outcome of this course is based on the following essential elements of a competent and reflective practitioner:

The duration of the studies is 6 semesters. Three academic year will comprise practical training in the following fields of nursing:

Nicolaus Copernicus University Collegium Medicum is a part of one of the was best universities in Poland, Nicolaus Copernicus University which was founded in 1945. The university offers Bachelors, Masters, Doctoral studies in 17 programs under faculty Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

The University has two teaching hospitals functioning as the institutional base for education, scientific research and highly specialized diagnostic, medical and rehabilitation services.

Courses

Doctor of Medicine (MD)

The 6-year MD Program was launched in 2009 as the first full-degree program for international students and has been enjoying great popularity ever since.

The curriculum includes a broad range of subjects covering different medical specialties. The cross-section of disciplines prepares our doctors-to-be for professional practice and helps them choose their future specialization path. The curriculum also includes obligatory 4-week summer placements after years 1-5 in nursing, outpatient health care, family medicine, internal diseases, surgery, emergency medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics, and paediatrics. The program begins with a 1-month preparatory course in biology, physics, chemistry and basics of Polish.

Master of Science in Physiotherapy (M.Sc. Physio.)

The 5-year uniform M.Sc. Physiotherapy programme is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences at Collegium Medicum. It constitutes a comprehensive combination of knowledge and practical skills in such areas as kinesitherapy, physical therapy, balneotherapy, manual therapy, therapeutic massage, and special methods.

The curriculum covers theoretical and practical aspects of physical therapy methods based on various forms of physical energy occurring in the human environment, such as movement and thermal, mechanical, electrical, light, chemical, and other types of stimuli. Physiotherapy deals with eliminating the repercussions of disease, alleviating disease processes and their effects, and restoring human psychophysical efficiency. The curriculum also includes intra-year work placements during each academic year in physiotherapy and kinesitherapy clinics and hospital wards

Graduates of Physiotherapy program are prepared and competent to provide various therapeutic services, including systemic rehabilitation (after traumas, surgeries, in chronic diseases), pulmonary, neurological, cardiac and geriatric rehabilitation, or the treatment of children in coma. Physiotherapists are trained and qualified to work in hospitals and outpatient clinics, private clinics, sports clubs, recreation centres, spa centres, health resorts, or social care facilities – there are many career paths open to our graduates of Physiotherapy.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing)

The 3-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences at Collegium Medicum. The Nursing program in Polish has always been incredibly popular and a decision was made to make it available to international students as well.

The 3-year B.Sc. Nursing program is a gateway for professionals who are prepared to provide direct health care services to children and adults in hospital wards, general and specialist clinics, emergency medicine departments, institutional care facilities, social care centres, health resorts, as well as in community or industrial health care. Courses take place in specially-equipped labs where our students practice nursing procedures in simulated conditions. The skills are then transferred to real-life situations during work placements in various healthcare institutions.

The curriculum covers theoretical and practical aspects of nursing, encompassing the following areas: health promotion, preventive health care, health education, and – most importantly – a broad scope of treatment, rehabilitation and nursing procedures. It includes basic medical sciences, social sciences basics of nursing care and a cross-section of specialist nursing care related to internal medicine, paediatrics, surgery, midwifery, gynaecology, psychiatry, critical care, rehabilitation, neurology, geriatrics, palliative care and basics of emergency medicine.
